    Will NCT fail if you have mix different tyre thread patterns on the same axle?

    No.

    If they’re different types of tyre (winter/summer) you’ll fail though.

    ...hmmm but I think I read somewhere that your insurance company may not like it. I believe you may need to have matching tyres on each axle to keep them happy.

    Not 100% sure, but I'll throw it out there to be confirmed/ debated / shot down in flames and abused :D

    I've had a car investigated before by an insurance company, and the guy assessing it was only concerned about age and thread depth.
