Fingal County Council has just taken the first step in what will no doubt be a very lengthy process of providing a coastal greenway from Donabate to Gormanstown. Given that Sutton to Portmarnock is still not finished and Portmarnock to Malahide and across to Donabate are a long way off, it will probably be our grandchildren who will get to cycle the full route.

Details of the information evenings in Balbriggan, Skerries and Rush together with maps outlining the study areas are at https://consult.fingal.ie/en/consultation/fingal-coastal-way

It does seem a shame that they seem to have already ruled out a Donabate to Rush option via Portrane and the Burrow with a bridge connection to Rush Harbour.

There is a short one close to getting the go ahead from Drogheda to Mornington which is about 8km as the crow flies to Gormanstown. From Drogheda you can get to Oldbridge along the river as it is at the moment.

Be mad not to consider the short distance between the them and join them up.

the Malahide to Donabate bit is with ABP, decision due in mid Jan

There would be considerable Airdraught issues bridging below Rush Sailing Club, and wouldn't provide any handy way for Donabate people to get to Rogerstown Park

Just came across this in the Greater Dublin Area Cycle Network Plan:

"This is a difficult section of the proposed East Coast Trail as it will entail a new bridge connection from the Donabate peninsula across Rogerstown Estuary to Rush. The shortest crossing point is full of sailing boat moorings, and a less direct route further west would require a bridge. There are environmental sensitivities at Rogerstown Estuary, and a low impact bridge crossing may be most appropriate. One possibility is a floating pontoon bridge......Alternatively the route may cross the estuary at the railway viaduct further west and then follow the northern shore to Rush".

Given that it was clear option back in 2013, it seems odd that it has been excluded even before the preliminary study in 2019.
