One cent, the card will go in to negative and won't tag on for any further e-purse transactions after that until brought back in to the green. As far as I remember it won't tag on even if the trip would actually be free under capping; from a thread on here but that might not be the case anymore.

It's still the case. The validators check for tickets, then credit, if no tickets or no credit, it wont authenticate a journey, regardless of cap being reached.
