Hi, I have a Sony Str Dh 550 AV receiver attached to my Samsung 55 inch TV in living room.

Pretty happy with it but think it's time for an upgrade. No problem with volume, more about clarity and quality. The main thing is my brother got a decent sound bar in his living room and it definitely has better sound quality than my set up. My speakers are originally from an all in one home cinema system I bought when I bought the house. Link to the system below, no longer using it but still using the speakers, there is plenty of technical data so you can see what I have

    https://www.whathifi.com/philips/hts3020/overview

Now, the house is wired for true 5.1 so should I upgrade speaker package or go for a soundbar?

What's my options, not sure of budget really but options between 200 and 500 euro that would give me better sound than I currently have welcome. Probably prefer not to change receiver at all if that's not needed.

    Hi Heres Johnny.

The Sony STRDH550 isn't a bad receiver at all. i do think those speaker let it down however as they are very very basic.

If you added something like the Whafedale DX2 priced at 399 Euro would completely change you system.

For a soundbar I would start at the Yamaha YAS207 priced at 279 Euro

Klipsch have their BAR 40 priced at 399 Euro

Sony have the HTXF9000 priced at 419 Euro

There is also the Sonos beam coming in at 429 Euro

Thanks, a bit of reading reviews on those speakers and of the sound bar v true surround sound is making me veer towards a new set of speakers. Considering I have the whole thing already wired I'd be crazy not to.

Can I hook those speakers onto a screw, I have one in each corner of the room holding current speakers so they truly look floating.

This could defo be my Christmas present to myself, its been a few years since I bought the Sony str so time for an upgrade

    Hi Here's Johnny,

Those speakers can be mounted on a screw as they have a standard key hole mounting bracket on the back.

Let me know what you think.

    Kind regards

    David
