One book I looked at was still a couple of Euro cheaper on Amazon even after the 33% code was entered...

I went with Easons this Christmas just because Amazon are known to undercut book prices far below what anyone else can offer and subsidise the loss they make on sales with profit from other areas. Once the book shops go bankrupt, there’ll be a Monopoly market and they can charge what they want to rip us off. There’s an online book community that shuns people for actually buying from Amazon (can’t turn down their deals sometimes, to be fair).

Speaking on Monopoly, it was €35 for the Mario Kart version in Easons. I thought it’d be a great deal with 30% off until I saw Smyth’s had it for €18. it’s definitely worth looking around in some instances anyway.

A while back I was going to order a book from Eason with 30% off and I checked the Book Depository and it was way cheaper! So check before you buy!! Remember that 30% off does not automatically mean the best value!

Book Depository still beating Easons, even after applying 33% discount....for any of the books I've compared.

I tried to buy Joe Schmidt's book, but it is outside of the Black Friday offer. The Book Depository have a voucher code but there's nowhere to put it. If I find it works, I'll post it here to get 15% off.

The kids want me to take them to Easons. Can you get a discount in store?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,432 ✭✭✭StaticNoise

    Online only.

    Online only.

I ended up ordering from Amazon. 16 euro vs 33 in Easons after the discount, had the discount being in store I would have bought it from them, but because I was ordering I in I felt I owed them nothing

Yes, they don't do themselves any favours sending people online. Amazon will always beat them on price and delivery. Some people would pay slightly more for the convenience of picking up in store but not at their prices.

    What did you buy?

    What did you buy?
2 copies of Diary of a wimpy kid : wrecking ball , 5 pounds each

1 hardback copy of the beast of Buckingham palace. The David Walliams verison as opposed to Prince Andrew. 6 pounds

    Delivery free

Meant to say 16 pounds instead of euro.

Have used numerous times and never an issue. Only problem is the website site needs more sections ie fiction, sport, etc
