Buying from Ukraine

I have bought from there in the past, but to be honest I do not know if they sent items in such a way that it avoided tax, or if there is no tax to be paid on items from Ukraine.
My understanding is that we (EU) have a free trade agreement with Ukraine, but when I search online I get mixed results.

Is vat to be added upon delivery when buying from Ukraine?

I have read these (and a lot more) but I am still none the wiser. The items that I would like to order, take 3 weeks from payment, but if stopped in customs, are less likely to arrive this side of Christmas.

    https://ec.europa.eu/trade/policy/countries-and-regions/countries/ukraine/
The AA/DCFTA aims to boost trade in goods and services between the EU and Ukraine by gradually cutting tariffs and bringing Ukraine's rules in line with the EU's in certain industrial sectors and agricultural products.

    https://trade.ec.europa.eu/doclib/press/index.cfm?id=1425
The application of the DCFTA of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement constitutes a milestone in the bilateral relationship, as it will offer new economic benefits to both sides. Ukrainian businesses receive stable and predictable preferential access to the largest market in the world with 500 million customers, while EU businesses will be able to benefit from easier access to the Ukrainian market and build new relationships with Ukrainian suppliers and cooperation partners. This will also be to the benefit of Ukrainian citizens, as they will have better access to high quality products, and increased competition and the lowering of import tariffs should lead to lower prices.
I'l try an email to revenue.

    Edited - Found this https://ukraineoffice.blogactiv.eu/2018/12/05/free-movement-of-goods-a-new-goal-for-ukraine-and-the-eu/
As for cross-border trade: since 2014, after temporary preferences were introduced by the EU, most of European customs duties for Ukrainian goods (with minor exceptions) have been abolished. However, in order to ensure truly free movement of goods, in addition to the abolition and reduction of customs duties, it is necessary to harmonize the controls carried out by the customs authorities of Ukraine and the EU.

If Ukraine puts this area in line with European standards, then it will be possible to achieve a “visa-free” movement of goods aimed at streamlining controls on the EU-Ukraine customs border. Consequently, a farmer from any Ukrainian village would be able to deliver his apples to a French supermarket as easily as he now can travel to the EU.

Whether there is a free trade agreement or not, there will be VAT payable. The VAT will probably be more than the duty.

How big is the thing? If it can come by air it probably won’t take very long.

It's small. Miltiple items. Light, but the shipping that they offer is 3 weeks. They emailed me and confirmed that.
I may give it a miss, it was just something I saw and I thought I may buy a few christmas presents for friends. Delivery worked out at €30 for €79 worth.
