How to fill gap between the window boards and the PVC window

I have small gaps (2-5mm) between the window board and the window. There is air getting in through the gap. What material should I use to fill the gap? Ideallly something that looks brown and has insulation properties. I thought of expanding foam but I am not sure how much space is under the window board and whether it's a good idea to fill it.

    Any ideas appreciated.

Remove the window board and air tighten the frame to the wall with a combination of airtight tape / mastic / membrane depending on what you find when the board is off. Re-instate the board.

I am not sure I can remove the board without having to replaster around the edges. It would be messy.

    Remove it.

Polyfilla will sort any small damage.

A bit of brown silicone would be grand.

    Seal externally?

If you bodge the visible gap, can the pressure driven air flow somewhere worse?

Don't bodge it with silicone or caulk. You won't be sealing the gap. It needs to be taped. You've several threads about insulation etc. Cutting corners on things like this then your wasting money .

I sealed ours externally. Made a big difference, and a better solution in my view. Only have 2 upstairs windows left to do, but at this stage i'll wait til spring when i'll be painting the exterior anyway.

Can you give me some instructions on how to do that? Do you mean seal under the external window sill?
