Invalidity Review/Appeal

Hi All, thank you for the help given to me so far.

I applied for the Invalidity Pension, and 4 months later I found out I was refused it. I then sent in a request for a review and an appeal at the same time with extra documentation supported by my GP and others. Today (6 months later) I received a letter saying the review was done but I am still not entitled to the Invalidity and all documentation will be passed on for my appeal.

Does anyone know how long it takes from review stage to hearing back from the appeal side. I have requested an oral hearing. I am 62 by the way. In unbroken employment since 1976.

I am really concerned that my illness benefit finishes in February 2020 and as my wife works, her income means I will not qualify for anything from the means tested Disability Allowance (Only barely over the means).

Having paid into the system for so long and never out sick before 18 months ago, it is quite upsetting that I am not entitled to anything unless I was nearly on deaths door !!!. Don't get me wrong, I am aware that may people are worse off than I .

Any advice from you good people would be great, thank you.

I’m not sure about the length of the appeal but they do tend to take a long time. When you sent in your documentation did you get letters from every medical person you’re seeing, not just GP? eg any consultants, physio etc depending on your condition. It can also help to send a letter outlining in detail how your condition impacts your daily life and how these restrictions would prevent you from returning to work. You can keep submitting documentation to the appeals office with your case number attached. Make sure you put forward the very best case you can for yourself.

    Thanks Whiplashy for replying.

Yes, I did send in all the documentation apart from my GP and also a covering letter as you suggested. I felt it was a very strong letter (biased I know ...lol). Hopefully the full appeal goes my way now as I fear come February 2020 after working all my life, I will have no income other than my wife's.
