Hi. Carers was turned down about six or seven weeks ago, I got in touch with local td who is helping me and it was decided to go with an review before appealing. The thing is I was told appeals are more likely in the end and can take up to 30 weeks but that the review should only take 6 to 8 weeks, dose this seem right ??given how long an initial decision takes and given how long an appeal can take, why would a review only take 8 weeks (not that I'm complaining lol, just dont want to be post watching if I dont have to) thanks all

im not quite sure what you think a td can do for you?

You only havea small window in which to appeal or review the decision, i believe its 30 days or so
So if its several weeksago you have likely gone over hte window and will need to resubmit a new application

A td really has no standing when it comes to social welfare issues, they can send letters till they are bluein the face, they do nothing to sway the decision

Hi. Sorry maybe I was t clear. We did send the review request off with some additional info already (within a week or so of being turned down) so it's really just wondering about the time scale.

I know td.s cant do anything more than ask the same questions I can and wait for the same reply but I was just stressed over how to word things and what extras I should add so contacted them for advice (they were very helpful to a friend of mine over a totally different issue) so contacted them. They sent off the review request but I know they dont do more than that. I'm praying every day it comes back in our favour, maybe that will have more clout ;)

Thanks so much for the reply xx

Review means that they have a second look at all of the documentation you have sent in, in case there has been a clerical error or misinterpretation of the applicable operational guidelines.

An appeal means that an independent appeals officer will examine your case from scratch - and will also consider any additional information that you send in.

NEVER go to a TD, it's a complete waste of time in 99.999% of cases, go to your local Citizen's Information Office and ask for help in compiling your appeal.

True, regarding TDs. I worked for the medical card unit, and anytime people were pissed off that there was an issue with the documentation THEY sent in, they'd be all like 'oh I'm getting a TD on this, this is ridiculous'

And they'd be wasting the TDs time, the TD would be ringing in, only to be told, yep, we need another payslip as the other was insufficient.

Not like they can speed it up or anything. Just as OP says, maybe word things better..

Thanks for the replies guys. I wasnt angry at the decision of it being turned down nor did I expect td to add clout or add weight to the review request. I genuinely only went to them for advice, they then sent it off for me, I haven't asked them to add anything or enforce anything (not that they could) it's just I know they deal with lots and lots of these and knew they might help in what I should do next. When you think you have given something 110% and then realise 110% wasnt enough (or as the case my turn out to be the 110% of what I put in doesn't matter and its simply the powers that be dont think you are entitled to it) sometimes a little guidance is needed. That's only why I went to them. The point of my post was to query the time line of a review in any case and it seems that that may vary from case to case too.
    Thanks again.

Did you also send off an Appeal?

No as far as I know only a review request was sent. Believe it or not I was just reading this evening that you can request both at once but I guess as I'm outside the 21 days I will just wait for the review decision now and then appeal. Thanks
