Lovely photo attached, this has bugged me for years but not sure how to approach it. Basically the back set of tiles are mouldy and loose, the tap is leaky and wobbles. I’d like to redo the tiles and fix the taps. I don’t have easy access to the fittings underneath though, what would you recommend? Do I remove all the tiles first via a grout remove thing? If I were to hire someone I’m not sure if I need a tiler or a plumber 😝

Not being funny, but if you call something a “grout removal thing” get someone to do it.

most of this work is very easy, if you know the basics.

Look on YouTube for some similar projects.

:D S’pose you’re right. I was hoping someone would say ‘do this, then this, in this order and all will be well’. Isn’t that what the internet is for? I imagine I’ll need to buy a new tap in any event

Darren, consider it a fun project. This is not difficult to do at all.

Tiling is simple and takes very little time.

There are a few skills you need to master here. Cutting wood, tiling and plumbing.

Mess around with some wood and it becomes easier.

Honestly, YouTube is a great resource for people not used to doing projects. Plumbing is a little tricky, getting the cuts right for the sink is a little tricky (you will need a new base for the sink) the tiling is simple (you will also need to trim the cabinet in either wood or metal.

If you can at all, try it. Worst that can happen is that you have to call someone in to do it.

Yeah, tiling I can do. The plumbing will get me!

If you can tile then you can do the plumbing required for this.

However, I wouldn't replace that counter with tiles since the same thing will just happen again.
Wet hands drip onto the tiles when shutting off the tap.

Are you looking to keep the same style of basin?

I was thinking a raised basin which has the tap at the back of it. That way any run off would go back into sick

Just get a bucket for the sick.
