Quick question - looking for off the shelf PC

Hi there,

Excuse the basic questions here, I don't know much about gaming PCs!

A friend of mine is looking to buy a gaming computer for her kid. It's a long time since I've built a PC, and she's really looking for one off the shelf from a shop. Her kid has given her these basics...

16GB DDR4 RAM
Nvidia GEForce 1060 6GB
1TB Hard Disk
Running Window 10, needs to run games like GTA at a good FPS (50-60fps at least).

My friend would ideally like to spent around €600 or so, she doesn't have a lot of budget.

Any tips about where to start looking? PC World/Harvey Norman/Amazon etc?

Your asking a lot for an off the shelf with that spec from some where like Harvey Normans plus no doubt they will use cheapo components , more than likely cheap motherboard and power supply for a start.
You might get close to that budget buying components seperately,also there are plenty of places like scan UK that have pre built systems or they will build for you but for €600 it will be tight.

Something like this from scan would be a lot better than anything from harvey norman etc

Scan and others like overclockers etc are specialists, i highly recommend them before Harveys,pc world etc.

unfortunately you wont get anywhere near those specs for that money unless you go second hand especially in bricks and mortar shops.

even buying prebuilt online you still need to factor in things like monitor, keyboard, mouse, gaming headset

Thanks a lot for your replies, I was wondering myself if the budget was small for the spec, and was concerned about about cheap parts too. But I just don't have the knowledge around gaming PCs to be able to properly advise. I'll pass your advice on, thanks!

If the budget is just for the PC you can get a pre-built with those spec's for that budget by not getting Windows 10 (simple to install it yourself and works forever without activation). If the budget includes monitor, keyboard & mouse and all that, it is far too low and you will have to go 2nd hand.

Forget PC World or Harvey Norman. What you will pay €600 for online with cost you €1k+ there.
