Thinking one of these up to 5 years old might be a good replacement for my present jalopy.

    Are they reliable ?

Are there things that I should esp. watch out for ?

When do the major service milestones happen ? ( timing belt / chain , emission control , clutch ? )

Any experiences ( good or bad ) ?

I had a 1.6 diesel civic estate. Very frugal on diesel. 70mpg is doable if you don't have a heavy foot. I kept mine for three years and and no issues. One thing that did happen was the clutch had very minor slip when the car was started cold after say 24 hours idle.. very hard to reproduce and honda replaced the clutch and made no difference. I really liked the car, the balance of power is nice.. 120bhp. Great practical car with the boot size. Shame they stopped making them. They changed the suspension setup in 151 i believe which was supposed to be better but i couldnt say i found the 142 uncomfortable. You can tell the difference in model as they changed the daytime running lights from dots to solid lines.. service interval was 20k km i think... not sure re timing belt.. could be a chain from memory

the entertainment system was no great shakes but i put a pioneer head unit in mine and was great job.
