Estimated cost of ducting work for FTTH

Have had the initial visit from KN Engineer today, after ordering FTTH last week, and the outcome appears to be that we'll need to put in a new duct to run the fibre.

There is an existing underground duct for the phone line, but it's quite a small pipe and has a very long run with no access. The KN Engineer said we'd have to either break into the existing duct every 50m (as that's the extent/lengths of their rodding), or put down a new duct altogether. The risk with trying to use the existing duct is that we later find more issues with it (too small, blocked etc.), so the most sensible option seems to be a new duct.

This would be an unusally long run as we're in the middle of farmland, so from the boundary/road (where the Fibre DP is on the pole) to the house it's over 200m.

Would anyone who has any experience or has had similar work done have any idea (rough guesstimate) as to how much this might cost to get done?

    Thanks!

Not sure about costs but am sure the guy from KN was not an engineer.
Had one of those muppets call one time to do a basic installation and he was like a bull in a china shop. He ended up breaking a hall lamp and knocking a lump out of the wall.

Access requirement is dependant on duct size you can get away with more than 50m or none if you've a large enough pipe.

Guessing you're just in the middle of farmland and not a farmer or relation of one?

Asking neighbours would be handiest, few of them probably have had water pipes laid done and could tell you the cost or might have the mole plough to do it.

He did say that in fairness, said we could go to 100m runs (with a new duct), before having to add an access chamber/junction box.

We're not the farmers but we are family, and 'the farmer' recently had some similar work done (but not such a distance) and I do plan to chat to him about it - just haven't had a chance yet.

Was hoping to get some ball-park figures from anyone that might have had similar done.
I suppose ultimately it's the price of a man with a mini-digger, for what I hope would be 1-day's work? Even if just to have them dig the trench - laying the duct & back-filling wouldn't be too hard to DIY I suppose...

mole plough wouldn't need trench dug, just placed on back of tractor and drive. You would need to dig at the access points and any corners. Common enough job for running water pipes. plenty of contractors could do it or you could look into hire it if the relation would provide the tractor and a couple hours.

I dug my own recently for ESB supply. Distance 70 meters. Cost was 140 the price of the digger rental.

Got the regulation piping from a friend.

So price up the piping they specify and add the rental or labour to that. Quite easy to do. Piping can be got from done deal. Adverts or various piping supplies on Google. Make sure it's the diameter they need.
