I like them, very stylish and a lot rarer than the A5 and 4 series alternatives. A bit bigger too by the looks of them.
Would a 4 seater with a coupe roofline outweigh any style benefits for you though?

Personally I wouldn't have one over saloons in around same price point but that's just me

People say that but really the Passat interior is perfectly good. What would people have expected of the Arteon?

Something nice than a Passat considering the cost difference tbh. It’s perfectly good on a Passat, but the Arteon looks a lot better than a Passat and should have an interior to go with it.

Ah I dont know now. I think it's just a thing that people get frustrated in knowing that it's in the Passat and it should be different for the sake of not being the same.

If you never knew it was in the Passat it'd be grand in the Arteon. Just my own opinion of course but it's not as if they lifted a bad looking interior from the Passat, it looks well for what it is IMO.

Love the style of the arteon, and I'd definitely consider one if I was going for something different. But for the price point I'd go for the new 3 series instead. Much better quality interior.

Is there much of a difference between an A5 sportback and A4 interior?

Was just about to say this. I looked at many A4’s & A5’s over the last few months and their interiors are the exact same. And the same again with the A6 & A7. VW Areton is really just the sport back version of the Passat.

Not really seems to be a generic layout for al lot of the vag group cars now

The problem I see with the Arteon is that I see it as being a more expensive and fancier Passat rather than a cheaper better value A5 Sportback.

For the money VW are charging for the Arteon over a regular Passat I'd say people would rightly be expecting something a bit more special than just a lifted Passat interior? Same goes with the Arteon's engine range here, they are pretty uninspiring.

One difference I would highlight between the A4 and A5 but might apply to Passat vs. Arteon is the driving position...having been in both the A4 and A5, the A5s driving position I found was way, way nicer, in both the Sportback and Coupe version.
Its not a visual thing obviously and its person dependent, just something to consider between similar interiors.

I was reasonably close to buying one during the summer. I test drove it and couldn't fault it that way plus the one I looked at had an endless amount of features. I think from the outside they are one of the best looking modern cars on the road. What ultimately put me off is the cost they are expensive and I just had serious reservations on the ability of it to hold its value. The thoughts of trading it in and a few years time and only ending up getting slightly more for it than a Passat would be sickening. Obviously I could be completely wrong on that only time will tell.

    Is it a case of

Vw - lower end interior design in higher end car

    Vs

Audi - higher end interior design into lower end car

Audi and BMW have traditionally introduced their interiors into top model and filtered down.
