Audi driver door not always unlocking on key fob

2008 A6: the driver door is not unlocking around 50-70% of the time when the car is unlocked with the key fob.

The key fob has a new battery, and the rest of the car unlocks, with hazard flashing as normal, etc. It's just the driver door lock that seems to be a problem.

Is this a known issue? Any suggestions?

Don't think its specific to your car, just common in general. Colder weather doesn't help. My Mondeo has started doing it lately, two clicks and mine opens so not bothering to fix it.....yet. Neighbours coincidentally does same thing.
    Probably just a sticky solenoid.

Doing a bit of research, sounds like I need to get the wire harness checked, particularly where the door connections to the car. After that, check wiring behind door card.

There is a micro switch within the lock assembly, and it can cause problem's ( now I'm not saying that this is 100% the cause of your problem, but it wont help locking -unlocking issues ) Mostly it means removing the lock, stripping it down and cleaning switch to make sure that the contact's are making a good connection. Its a common fault with Audi. Lots of You Tube video's on how to repair it.

Common on audi A5 for the door lock itself to cause this problem. Very possibly the same on A6.
Oiling helped for a while but I had to change mine on A5.
Good used lock 40 or 50 quid.

Yes they are all the same locks. Generally the contacts on the micro switch get dirty, and don't make a good connection. The can work fine for awhile, then for no apparent reason, stop working...then work again. It's the electric's which cause it.. in the micro switch. If you still have the old one, open it up and clean the contact's, and you will have spare in case the new one starts acting up.

    Not just Audi.

This is a common issue on all VAG group cars

They just cant figure out how to keep the bit and pieces inside the doors dry

Window regulators are more or less consumables as well

They cant even make clutch pedals that dont fail at weld points.

Because so many parts are common across the brands the issues are not limited to one brand

Payback for year after year of relentless manufacturing cost reduction.

It seems a common proble, on the drivers side of the A4s.
    Happened mine .
I think it might be due to the fact the drivers door lock is the only one with a key which can divert water into the door lock actuator
