Not that surprising considering it was one of Bob Flavins favorite cars of this year, Bob is co chairman of the committee

I suppose you would prefer a car with a low roof and a rear window not you can not see out off like most cars these days. Funny people complain about these things and the way its more awkward to judge reversing a car now etc and a car like the Soul or Juke comes along and all of a sudden they talk aesthetics.

    Live long and Prosper

How many do Kia plan to ship into Ireland during 2020 ?

I’ve an EV over 3 years now. Can’t remember the last time I’ve used a public charger so clearly not everyone needs public charging.

As a rough guess kia sold 494304 cars last year in Europe and to meet eu co2 limits they need to sell 40 000 full evs so roughly 12% of cars have to be evs so I say with kia sales of 7,314 last year in Ireland 877.6 electric kia's split between the soal and the nero

A lot of recent cars are ugly. Exceptions (apart from mad exotic stuff) for me would be the RCZ and most recent Micra but the Soul has always been a dreadful looking yoke

Looks are subjective. I have always liked the Kia Soul but been disappointed with the choice of engines which I think held it back. I think it would have sold more if it had a choice of diesel and petrol engines but hope the new e-Soul does well now.

How did you calculate those figures?

You’d need the CO2 emissions breakdown of the 494k cars to be able to do the calcs.

Is that data publicly available for each manufacturer?

Have you the driving patterns for Ireland on which this ascertain is founded please?

Well I drive to outside Coachford in Co Cork from South Tipp twice a week a distance of 270 kms each way(for family reasons) up and down the M8 with some driving round my local town before I leave. And with a range of 280 I would be sweating on the way home.I have no idea where there are any charging points on the way,but I would not have time to wait to charge up if I had to.So yes I have some small idea of how this particular EV would not suit me.OK?

It's not entirely clear from your post whether you do 270x2 once a week (28k a year) or 270x2 twice a week (56k a year) but that sort of driving pattern is not typical for the majority of Irish drivers.

South Tipp to Coachford isn't 270kms each way.

Cork to Dublin is hardly that!

So maybe you don't have "some small idea of how this particular EV would not suit me.OK?"

It's horrendous looking on the outside, interior is nice though and it's well specced but mental money. First time I've seen it.

Riddle me this why is the range so short if the battery is so big, VW seem to be getting close enough to it with a battery only 1/3 of the size.

    452 km 150 kW

What VW is close with 1/3 the battery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,816 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

    The ID3 mid range 58kW (420km)

No but it's nearly 1/3 of 150. Where did you see 64?

Is 150kW the power of the car (like bhp), rather than the size of it's battery (which is 64kW).

You could be right...couldn't figure it out, I presumed it was range when the km was before the kw, yet VW say it the other way.
    It's rougly 200bhp, impressive.

COTY infamous for some fairly curious 'winners' over the years that bombed in the marketplace e.g. Chrysler Horizon, Renault 9, FIAT Brava.

An electric car brings a bit of publicity to the awards. They're not going anywhere for a decade at least until their shortcomings become apparent.

This is how I remember (and it took a while to stick for me!)

kWh = stored energy (so battery size)
kW = power (so energy flow, motors, charging speed etc)

I've read a few reviews, this seem like a very good car. I still haven't adjusted to the looks from the side or back, I like the look from the front.

    Go to 25.25.

I drive a similar distance, in an EV, with a tiny (28) battery, on motorways, averaging 125km/ph...

Has to be return, if the post was serious at all and not trolling.

ViaMichelin gives Carrick-On-Suir to Coachford as 132km, giving almost 270km return.
