I know this isn't an overly serious issue but it's still something that's been affecting me for the past while.

I'm 22, I've recently returned to college, I'm working part time and commuting to and from work + college while living with my parents (1 hour to college, half an hour from work, roughly).
I've also applied for the Guards so I'm waiting for an interview date at the moment, but that doesn't take up much time.

I'm honestly just so bloody bored all of the time..
It's not anhedonia, I'm not depressed.. I'm actually the happiest I've been in a long time.

It's like I'm so accustomed to having a project in the works, be that finding work, dropping out of college, changing degrees.. that sort of nonsense.

I had a project car for awhile too but I sold that awhile back (couldn't insure it if I got it on the road)..

I don't have very many friends, my classmates are a little odd, there's very specific groups, none of them mingle.. they don't talk to each other and then there's me, the new fella.

The main issue is I only see people while at lectures, I just go to college and go home.. if I have a break I'm in the library.

I don't know if it would be worth moving into student accommodation.. It's not a big college and it's not like there's a huge amount of nightlife - there's some but it's not great..
So I don't know if it'd even be worth the cost considering I don't mind commuting..
The one thing I'm missing out on is relationships, I don't get to talk to many girls and living at home certainly isn't helping the fact..

Maybe I'm just bored and should move out.
Maybe I just need a new hobby (I play guitar and video games, that's it).
Maybe I'm just so used to having some project or plan going that now that everything is going good, I'm left standing here bored out of my skull.

I know it probably sound stupid but when I mention it to my parents they just go on about how the gutters could do with a clean or how I could paint the back side of the shed - none of that is very helpful..

This is what clubs and societies at college are for. Expanding your interests and range of social contacts.
College isn't just about the educational content, a good amount of it is the people who you get to know.

If your class isn't chatty, clubs and societies are the way to go. Sport, art, film, social, music, debate, politics, IT, charity...
Go onto your college website, find the clubs and socs list page.
They will either have an email, a FB or a number to call. Give them a shout, show up to a gathering and see if any take your interest.

If you like projects, have you considered starting a band. Put out on ad for band mates online or on a bulletin board in college. Women go crazy for guys in bands, so you'll have no problem in hooking up with someone. You can crash on other people's couches if you can't get home as after a night out.

I've looked into the societies and clubs, sadly most if not all take place in the evening so that could mean waiting around from 4 to 8 for a movie night..

That's why I'm thinking of moving into accommodation, I'm certainly missing out on the 'college experience' living with my parents

Don't get me started on starting a band!
I've wanted to since I started playing and I've had zero luck.
Out of everyone I knew from college the first time round, 4 fellas (myself included) played guitar and that was it.
I knew 101 DJs and 'DJ collectives' though..

I don't think starting a band is on the cards for me but it's not for lack of trying

If you feel bored all the time then a relationship may not be the answer. If you rely on someone else to make your life better and more fulfilled, it can have a disastrous effect if it finished. And at 22 more than likely it will.

If you don't mind me saying, you are making excuses for things. Project car..sold. Band...not going to happen.

Yes it's tough living with parents and annoying when looking for advice and they mention gutters. Put yourself out there. Go to open mics and play music and you will meet musicians. Get another car to work on if you like that. But don't disregard doing gutters or other chores. It will take your mind off things and completing tasks is always positive. Hope things get better for you

Of course they take place in the evening, lectures and labs are during the day.

Do your lectures, go to library, get food in the college canteen, go to meeting. For the love of God don't pick a movie night where you sit in a dark room not talking. Pick something where you get to know people.

There is a lot to be said for living with parents while in college, student accommodation can be fairly disgusting.

Sorry but your parents are right.(short term)

Sitting in a room on your own playing guitar and computer games is totally antisocial as an activity. You need to get out, put yourself out there and socialise.Yeah parental suggestions are not the most helpful but equally cleaning gutters is a physical activity with a visible end that gives a sense of satisfaction that video games don't.There is a lot of research around the benefits to people of doing physical work on tasks such as that to help them feel better.

I'm not suggesting them as a solution to all your problems mind you.But I wouldn't write those jobs off either.Point is, if you can move out that's well and good but either way you need to get out of the house and join a group or 2 to get a bit of a social life.Even better if it involves physical activity...rock climbing, tag rugby, walking, whatever. You have to go find it and put effort in, it's not going to be handed to you.

dont move out yet, do ur chores, get to know your parents, wear sunscreen, get a small motorbike or scooter, bang grunge chicks, record your music and post it, go to the pub more but dont be coming home pissed, stay over and after party but stick to your goals as the 20s can be a malaise if u dont keep urself grounded and directed. you'll gratefully understand the stable influence of your parents when you're older.

fooksakes man ur 22, ya play music, u wont have a problem meeting people, just get out there, the open mic thing mentioned earlier is a great thing

as someone who was in college for years, i can say that the ones who lived away from home had the best time in college, i moved in with randomers in 1st year and we had a great year, the next few years i hung out mainly with people from my class, we were constantly at house parties, nightclubs, bbq's etc. the people in college who never moved out had zero social life, that is a waste of college. i can honestly say that my college years were the best years of my life.

try to loose the pessimistic attitude op, it wont help you. i dont see why you couldnt start a band if you want to.
