Nürburgring Visit - just to watch - worth it?

    Hi,

I will be visiting Frankfurt in the coming weeks and was thinking about making a day trip to the Nürburgring just to watch cars doing hot laps - and not drive it myself.

Just wondering is it worth doing it (it will be mid week in November), or can it even be done. it is roughly a 3 hour round trip, so don’t want to go if it wouldn’t be worth while...

    Thanks in advance ;)

Never been a visitor to Nuerburgring...never been there at all in fact.

But mid-week on a dreary November day...mhm..it's probably gonna be cold and miserable and there mightn't be anything on at all. Don't know if there is a public calender to check and see what's on exactly on any given day. If it's some secret testing, you probably won't get access anyway

A more dry, warm and definitely something interesting to see location is this one:

    or that one

I'd imagine going to the Ring to just watch would be like going to a strip club just to have a drink.

Touristenfahrten is limited to saturday and sundays in november with the exception of the first friday of the month, so if your not going during that it may be an empty track or you might get to see some testing depending on if theres anything booked, other than time on track i spent most of my time checking out the cars in the carpark and just chatting , this was all during touristenfahrten though. Im not sure if the ring taxis run that late into the year but it could be a great way to see the track if its running when you are there afaik they run for TF and organised track days. There is a motorsport museum there up near the hotels but honestly it wouldnt be enough to make the trip alone.

If you head over to bridge to gantry the lads over there will know exactly what will be on while your due to be there.

Not an unusual thing to do to be fair.

I’ve been to the ring to both drive it and watch. The ring in November isn’t much craic I’ve drove up through the Eifel mountains when the fog was so thick you couldn’t even see the track. I’ve went up when the weather was ok but even on a weekend it was very very quiet.

You could go to the Nurburgring museum which is quite good. I went in April and going again next year. I would personally find it difficult to go to just watch as driving on it is just such an experience. In saying all that the atmosphere in the town and around the track was just something else so getting to experience that maybe worth it. I don’t think you would regret going either way as I don’t think there is anything else like it.

    I went in July

There was a big day on and got a drift taxi, there was also drag racing.

Aside from there theres a great viewing point to see.

I got a lot from driving to it and seeing the whole set up. We got there very early one sunday morning we we're only there 10 minutes and there was a crash and it was closed for ages

If it was me I would go. I didnt go to the museum but I will the next time I visit. I have family who live 25-30 minutes drive away.

There is a lot of no parking signs make sure you obey them. The corner we we're at had a load of parking

Take it all in and enjoy it

A friend went many moons ago. Got a corporate ticket. Found it loud, smelly and ultimately boring as F1 cars go by so fast.

I've been there 4 times, all for weekends. I've watched the 24h race, lapped the ring, stayed at the hotel next to the track and just watched everyone else lap too. I'd recommend you going between May and September as there are loads of cars there, you can get great spots to sightsee and you can walk around the track for as long and as far as you want. It is an amazing experience, but I wouldn't go there in November... again.

I drove it on a touristenfahrten day last summer and when we were finished hung around the car park chatting and looking at some incredible car porn .. had some lunch in the cafe and then parked but by one of the viewing spots and spent a few hours just listening and watching the metal go by ... incredible day.

Take time to have a look at the f1 track .. there was a AMG day on when I went in and just about every model of AMG was being pounded around the track .. the museum is worth a look around also ...

Can’t wait to go back the next time in in the area
