Losing weight to conceive

Hi all, I'm just wondering did anyone have any success conceiving after they lost weight? We were so lucky with our first child and got pregnant very easily but I'm just about to turn 38 now and we have not been lucky enough to get pregnant after trying for the last 5 months. I am overweight and have just started to lose weight now and I'm wondering how much this is affecting things. Also would you recommend any ovulation monitors? I used the Tesco ovulation sticks this month but didn't find them great. Thanks so much
