HI all. My wife has no off farm income. But assists part time in helping on the farm as I work off farm as well and sometimes gone for 10-12 hrs a day. Am I right in saying if I have a transfer set up I can claim this as a legitimate expense. Without having to register as an employer.. And also have an added benefit of raising my 40% threshold. It won't be huge expense probably 100-130 a week. I will be calling revenue later to confirm. But if anyone is in a similar position or can advice I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

Talk to your accountant. I'd imagine best way would be a tax partnership where profits could be divided between ye and seeing as you have an off farm income the percentage in her side would be higher while still staying at the lower rate.

You can't backdate these wages anymore. Has to be done in real time. As above, do you currently use her tax allowances?

Currently use her tax credits. But have been transferring money into my wife's account since Jan 18.

What do you put that money as in your accounts?

You will probably be able to back date some of it as wages before the real time rules came in. Or casual labour?

It's looking like i can put it down as an expense. And my wife to put the income down as farm management or similar in the form 11. I have transfers so all legit. I presumed it was straight forward and common in farm families. Going forward I'll need to talk to another accountant. Thanks for your replies

Too late now but the best job is not to get married
Single mothers can draw an allowance and get rent paid and can earn up to 8 k without it affecting their allowance.
    Add extra childrens allowance
So the right job is dont marry, you build the house, rent it to her,pay her 8 k tax free and she draws all the social wwelfare.all in all that wedding could be costing you 30 k a year .i expect the pc brigade to pile in now

if self employed it wouldnt make any difference tax wise, you and your wives income are added together and credits taken off before tax. only thing it will create is an extra accountant cost with no tax benefit.

if your set up as a company you can put wife down as a wage

Ok I was hoping at least the small amount I was transferring may be used to lower the 40% threshold as my wife would be declaring income. Im in the process this morning of sorting out clarification from an accountant. Needless to say I'm useless at the tax system thanks
