The temp clock got loose on it and fell off. See pictures. The question I have is what's it for. Is it dangerous/live and can I just screw it back on? Thanks

Yes, just slide the two pieces back into the tube, (they are not live) and tighten the small silver screw to keep it in place. Straightforward.
