    in it, it says
The Dutch government has announced it is to actively enforce laws designed to prohibit the breeding of dogs with muzzles considered to be too short.

Since 2014, it has been forbidden to continue breeding some 20 short-snouted breeds in the Netherlands, as defined under a traffic light system of head measurement using red, orange and green classifications.

    Classifications
    - Red applies to dogs with a snout length shorter than a third of the skull, such as the pug, and English and French bulldogs. Breeding with these dogs is prohibited immediately.
    - Orange applies to dogs with a muzzle length of a third to half the skull. With this, breeding is only allowed if they meet other criteria that are set for breeding.
    - Green applies to dogs that have a snout at least half the size of the skull. You can breed with this.

The traffic light system is visualised here:

So basically, once enforced, this means the end of breeding for all Pugs, French and English Bulldogs, Pekinese, Shi-Tzu, most King Charles Spaniels, Boxers, Chihuahuas and lots of other short faced dogs.

Personally I would welcome such a system in this country as well; but as there is no control of any kind re dog breeding, I won't hold my breath (unlike those poor dogs)

Maybe it might catch on once some Countries start to enforce it.

I agree, it would be welcome because as adorable as they are, brachycephalic breeds have to endure a multitude of difficulties from breathing, heart issues, skin problems etc because of the way humans have bred them.

Educating people more about these breeds before they choose a new dog is important, if they want a pet with a happy and healthy quality of life.

I think people are somewhat more aware nowadays but you'll always get some who don't care and have cuteness as the number one priority. Once there's a demand and no regulation the breeders will continue.
