    Hi
Both myself and other half are Paye employees.
Got sent a tax demand of over 4k for underpayment of tax.
We are a bit lost here as both were under the impression that as paye we were taxed at source.
Is this an error on taxmans side or is it possible to underpay if paye?
    Thanks all

Does the letter not explain the source of the underpayment?

I have done a balancing statement and ended up owing revenue due to tax due on sick pay or something like that. There are many ways you can end up underpaying tax on paye

Have you filled form 12 tax returns online claiming tax relief on something and then being asked to provide proof for the claims?

You haven't given enough information to assist you.

Do you have any other sources of income? Did you have any tax credits in the past which have continued even though you stopped (e.g. 3rd level fees), did you have benefits which were not included for PAYE, LPT liabilities?

Depending on the circumstances you might be able to get it out through the tax coding through a restriction if future credits.

What triggered the "tax demand" ?

“I can’t pay my staff or mortgage with instagram likes”.
