BMW Wallbox charger only giving 2.2kw charge

The charger is only giving 2.2kw and the max range the car gets it 22km.

I have the installer pin and when I enter it to go through the Menu there is nothing obvious jumping out - no connect to Wifi options etc. There is a static IP setting in there already.

    Can anyone help please?

Turn up the AMP’s in the app, that’s the default setting. Depending on the app it will look like a dial, spin it with your finger and it will bump up to 7 (possibly goes up to 11)

Thanks. Have the app installed but it's not picking up the charger. Charger has a default IP config.

Any idea how to reset to factory settings? Google not helping

You can use a web browser as well to connect to the WiFi hub in the Wallbox, http://192.168.2.0 should get you to the start page

EDIT: You need to connect to the WiFi of the Wallbox

IP of Wallbox is 192.168.0.101 (as per console on the unit)

I cant ping that or connect to it in a browser (my laptop is on the same subnet) though I didn't connect the unit to my WiFi

Do you have the Bluetooth module? That’s another option to connect. Near the wallbox check for available SSID’s as you can also connect to the wallbox WiFi. Have you powered off the wallbox? A classic reboot may help.

My WIFI at home originally would not connect as I have thick concrete walls so I had to use a range extender near the box.

Might be a stupid question but Bluetooth module where? In car?

Will try a power cycle on the unit when I get back too

The wallbox might have Bluetooth, mine does and I can connect directly when the WIFI is down.

Definitely no Bluetooth module on the charger.

In the installation menu under rated power - setting is set to 'Rated power of the wallbox (in A): 10

Under 'Power meter connected' connection value (In V) = 230

    Those settings ok?

There is also an update and reset option - I assume reset will put it to factory settings.

    Any advise?

    The 230V would be right.
The 10A is why it’s only giving 2kW. You need to increase that.

Did you try connecting your phone to the built in WIFI of the wallbox? It might be broadcasting its own SSID, the app may work then.

Get the app connected, its a simple change once you are in. At this stage tech support is probably your best avenue.

Not picking up any SSID but will stand next to it and try.

Away for a few days so try when back.

    Appreciate the help.

Did you change the "Rated power of the wallbox (in A)" setting up to a higher value?

What value should I enter here instead of 10?

No, was lashing rain when I checked last night and no idea what the value should be!

Since its a 530e I think the max you can charge at is 3.6kW so you should set it to 16A.

Charge points typically come in two formats (16A and 32A). You can definitely set it to 16A. You should only set it to 32A if the trip switch in your consumer unit for the Wallbox is sufficienctly rated. Post a pic of your consumer unit (pointing out the one for the wallbox) and we can advise.

But set it to 16A and it should charge your 530e at full rate because thats all the 530e can handle anyway.

Car has a 3.7kw on board charger.

Just texted the electrician who installed it and he told me he put a new fuse in the box which is rated for 32A no problem. I'll change it to that when I get back.

Thanks for all the help folks.

I change the settings above to 32a and straight away the charger tells me it's charging at 3.6kw instead of 2.2kw.

It charged fully in three hours but the range on the full charge is 25km - before I go back to BMW, is there anything I should check in the car settings - it should give a lot more.

How much is a lot more?

Given the weather the range looks normal.

Google is saying 45km give or take

Would the weather affect the total charge the battery can take?

    Yes.

That's a summer range. Winter is realistically 25-30

When you drive it will adjust, its calculating your range on your previous driving style before charging, also pre-heat before driving when its charging

US EPA puts the 530e electric only range at 16 miles/26 km
