Form 11 - CGT - loss in second period of year

    Hi,

I must be missing something here but...

In Dec 2018 I paid some required CGT, then in December I had a loss, which I expected to enter in the 2018 form 11.

In the Capital gains section in form11 I enter the annual chargeable gain, then the loss, subtract the personal exception and get the net chargeable gain for the year. All OK, but then I need to list the net chargeable gains in each period and they have to add up to the annual chargeable gain.

But you are not allowed to enter a loss/negative for the net gain for either period, so I don't see how they can match. Sure, I can pretend that the Jan-Nov gain included the loss, but then that makes it look like I incorrectly calculated my gain last year. (Though as an aside, since the CGT self accessment doesn't care about the 2 periods, I guess revenue won't notice).

    Ix.
