Rear Shock setup

Hi I'm hoping someone might have some info for me on my rear shock. It seems to be allowing too much movement when set to climb.

its a fox Float x ctd - it seems like when its in climb mode its allowing way too much travel and sapping more energy than it should on the climbs.

I have upped the air and have slowed down the rebound but it seems like theres too much sag for what should essentially be almost locked out.

    any ideas?

It should be pretty much locked out when aired correctly so it may need new seals, when did you have it serviced last? What pressure are you running in it? The rebound will have no impact when climbing.

I got the bike second hand and doubt its been serviced to be honest Im running about 220 psi Im pretty chunky 16 stone. I think I'll get a service done and check it out

    I'd say that's a good call.

Besides a service; to set your sag up you'll want to be wearing your typical riding kit. If that involves a backpack with a water bladder and a load of tools, then do just that. You may find you (also) need more than 220psi in your shock.

But definitely get a service done as iwillhtfu has suggested. My other half's bike was bought 2nd hand and same thing was happening, no matter what we did the sag was just overbearing. Turns out one of the seals was gone.

Sometimes the seals in the unserviceable part of those Float CTD shocks can go, basically rendering the CTD settings as useless. Fox or a regsitered Fox service centre can fix it, but it is expensive and can take a couple of weeks. It maybe cheaper and quicker to just buy a new shock.
