Tax relief on rent paid 16/17

Hi all,

Apologies if posted before. Was renting in a private house in Castletroy in Limerick in 2016 to end of 2017. 400 per month. Got no receipts and never asked because I didnt think about claiming at the time.

Can I claim on rent I paid? And if so I'll just ask the landlord for receipts?

There was seven of us living there and the landlord is a pretty big property developer so I'm presuming all was above board.

You can only claim the rent tax credit if you were renting on the 7th of December 2010. If you were entitled to the rent tax credit on that date you could claim it up to the end of 2017. If you started renting after that date then the credit can't be claimed and there is no relief for rent paid.

I was renting in Kildare until May 2011. Then I was abroad and came home and started renting again in Limerick in 2016. So I'm not sure if that will qualify me.
