    Hows it going lads.

Brought in a car earlier in the month paid the vrt... and sadly some lovely person smashed into me, car is a write off.

I know I can claim back the tax(had it taxed for a whole 3 days before the crash) but does anyone know if the vrt can be claimed back?

I doubt it but I'm just checking to be sure.

Doesn't work like that. If you could claim VRT back separately on a wrote off car then you would have cars written off everyday of the week.

You will be getting a settlement figure from the other person's insurance company based on the car's current Irish market value which includes VRT so technically your partial VRT refund is in that figure .
