Just seen in the paper , Sky are putting up all tv packs from December, Surely this is a very bad move with the availability of other platforms (Netflix and all the other tv apps )

any potential opt out would be clearly stated in the correspondence you received.

My package is going up by €4.50, no email yet, found out by checking the future bills that are forth coming. €3 for the entertainment pack and €1.50 for the Sky Q multiscreen pack.
After being with Sky for 20+ years it really winds me up how Sky treat their long term subscribers.

I am moving house so would welcome an opt out. where in the contract does it say they can increase it? cant understand how you could sign up to an agreement that can then be changed and you are still bound to it

In the minimum term your Sky TV, Sky HD and Multiscreen prices may increase once by up to 10 per cent or RPI if greater. Other prices and services may also vary.

Is that legal, how can they sell you a product which you agree to, but they say they can change it. I was cancelling and they convinced me to stay by offering a set price per month for 12 months

Trust me I'm no lover of Sky but they didn't force you to stay but you made the decision to do so. That decision left you bound to the T&Cs of a contract.

On a separate note it's disappointing that queries in this thread have not been addressed.

Cancelled last week. Didn't help that the Sky Q box hasn't worked properly since it was installed, one engineer didn't even touch it and instead replaced the dish, next one just did a reset.
Their customer service has fallen off a cliff in the last 2-3 years or so.

Got a text today to tell me how sorry they were I was leaving and that I should call them to discuss my options! Some retention team that can't even be bothered to pick up the phone and retain.

Unmitigated disgrace and much happier now about leaving even though our house has been signed up for the guts of two decades.

Off to Virgin for €35 a month, dropping the sports and movies and getting a VPN to boost the value of Netflix a bit.

This decision by Sky has made our minds up about whether we'd discontinue our Sky contract.
Could anyone suggest a good replacement system for a Sky+ box please?

Final nail in the coffin for us also.. so many other options out there now with FTA and streaming that Sly don’t hold the dominant position they used to.

Couldn't be arsed tbh, I tried it but it was a nightmare. The only option I would consider seriously would be a Humax box.

Not exactly a shock move by Sky. So glad to have ditched linear pay TV years ago, although Netflix are losing the run of themselves these days with their own increases too.

A Humax HDR-1100S Freesat box will be a drop-in replacement for Sky+ UNLESS you had Sky Q, as the LNB on the dish won't work if it's not a hybrid version.

But in terms of usage, functionality etc it's pretty much the same as Sky+ HD (Freesat even has a mobile app you can use for scheduling remote recordings).

Of course you won't get anything bar the FTA channels (so no Sky One, Sports, Movies etc) and you will need a Saorview aerial and receiver (if your TV doesnt support FreeVIEW HD) for RTE, Virgin etc.

The humax 1100s is a great box. I have it a couple of years and can't fault it. No fiddling with it, just plug and play.

I actually ditched netflix in the last week. I watch most catchup/streaming on the iplayer.

I do wonder how long it will be before we see some version of the iplayer being offered by Sky in Ireland. Streaming has become king and sky's product is expensive and still very much linear based.

And what's more they still don't even realize it

They made off that by getting BT Sport's they would have the monopoly and Jack up the prices again as "they'll all be back"

Only reason most I know had BT was you could usually get it for 10 to 13 a month depending on deals

Most I know have gone back to the streaming
