Hi All, I’m getting rid of Sky and I’m wondering if I need to get saorview in order to get Irish channels, rte etc? I don’t have an aerial only a sky dish, I’m hoping I can buy a freesat box which will work with my existing dish and get Irish and freesat channels. Is there such a sat box out there or must I get the saorview connect box and an aerial??

    TIA

You need an aerial for Irish Saorview . Depending on where you are one in the attic may work

Irish channels are encrypted on the satellite used by Sky. You will thus need a conventional aerial for the Irish channels and use the dish with a suitable box for the UK channels. Freesat boxes have many of the free UK channels and are pretty much plug and play. You could then use the TVs inbuilt tuner for Saorview (with an aerial) if it is less than 10 years old. However this means switching between inputs to go from UK to Irish. A better solution is a combo box that merges both terrestrial and satellite free to air channels into the same list. This thread discusses one such box. There are several on the market. The Saorview connect box is a poor alternative in terms of performance and functionality IMO.
