Double standards

The one I find puzzling is depression and suicide. Most people think that if a person has suicidal ideation, they're almost not in their right mind to make that decision yet if it came to a depressed or mentally ill person commiting something homicide, harming someone else, or any other crime, they're fully responsible and capable from distinguishing right from wrong. Why is this?

Also pretty much men and women in the justice system?

Anyone is more than capable of being in "a bad state of mind" but still have the comprehension not to murder someone. Its not a license to act irrational, and if you do, you'll be punished like anyone else.

That’s not double standards. They’re two completely different circumstances.

How men and women in our judiciary are treated isn’t an example of double standards either. Again they’re two completely different circumstances.

How do you know what most people think?

There are psych wards in this country that are worse than prison. Plenty of people go into them after committing violence against other people - often things that never go to court.

Sweet sixteen is a beautiful song loved by many and sang at many a sing song.

Say you found a 16 year old beautiful these days and you're on the sex offenders list .

    Not if you're 16

Not sure how a Boards.ie After Hours discussion can positively address this topic.

There is a difference between wanting to destroy yourself and wanting to destroy others.

People who want to commit suicide are 99& of the time no danger to society.

Its like you are pushed to your limit ...some people snap and try and shoot others ..some people snap and try and shoot themselves.

Not if you simply find them beautiful ...its your actions not your thoughts or feelings.

I mean if you had sex with a 16 yr old but really didn't find her/him beautiful ..you were drunk ..or bored etc.

A lot of music from the 50's 60's ad 70's refer to very young girls as being love objects, I don't think there is a famous singer from that time who hasn't sang such a song. Does it mead they are all peados?

    Of course not.

    Context, people, please.

Not sure what you are saying here.

If someone is having sex with people who are underage, then they are breaking the law and should be dealt with accordingly.

Its not a double standard though because suicide isnt a crime, murder is
It is interesting though what you said about how we consider depressed people with suicidal ideation not to be in the right frame of mind to make decisions for themselves but if they commit murder that wouldnt really be taken into consideration

I think we are on way different wavelengths, either that or you are being deliberately obtuse.

    Got it.

“Sweet Sixteen” as the words for the snappy rhyme, for example “Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen” and so on.

Don’t think they were all paedos, but a lot of what went on then certainly would not fly now.

Possibly if the guy is older.
