What happens if you can't afford it? I don't know anyone here with cancer but one of my mothers friends in Tanzania had it after developing untreated HIV and subsequently died. Only afforded medication when she had been diagnosed with HIV for 6 years. She became terminal in the last two years.

I suppose its not the same here?

You don't pay for it here. We pay taxes that fund the public health service so that people can get the treatment they need.

If you don't have Private Medical Insurance then developing Cancer or any other life threatening illness in Ireland is really a game of Russian roulette. The HSE Public system is an absolute disgrace and is run entirely for the benefit of the trade unions and it is overstaffed with useless incompetent crony appointees who could not survive two minutes in the private sector, most have their jobs as a result of some corrupt Fianna Fail politican using pull to get them in the door.

Pay private insurance or have very deep pockets to pay for the private care when you will need it. Our Government wastes almost €20 billion per year on this socialized spending when it should be entirely privatised.

Is it true doctors give you free opiates, benzos, BDZ sleeping pills when you become terminal?

Everyone's life has been touched by cancer in some way here.

Given your suggested prescribed drugs, I don't think this topic is suited to a thread of your's Mr F.
