Advice on strange kitchen layout

    Hi,

I recently bought a flat with the strangest kitchen layout, it's a backwards L shape and totally impractical. I've been searching the internet for similar kitchens to get ideas how to manage it but can't find any backwards L shapes at all.

Would anyone have any advice on how to handle such a kitchen from a design and practical perspective, we will be changing the floors and all units in the near future but are lost for ideas on how to use the space.

    Thanks!!

What's behind the wall that the units are all attached to?

Also what's on the other side of the wall to the side of the washing machine?

Seems like you have to go along the little galleyway to get in or out of the kitchen, is that right? Where does the French window open onto? A balcony?

Basically I'm wondering if there's a section that doesn't need a through passage that could be better used. When we bought our place, there was a small kitchen and the reverse L you mention was a little "back kitchen", aka dead end corridor, that had a window but no exit. We closed off about a third of it to make a massive walk in larder and integrated the rest into the main part of the kitchen. I love it. Not sure you could do that though. Any chance of a floor plan?

Behind the cooker and sink are the pipes and vents for the whole building and behind the washing machine and dishwasher is a tiny room with a toilet (flat is in eastern europe where the toilet and bathroom are separate).

I'll go get the plans now and post them in a bit. It's the most awkward flat I've ever seen. :D

    And thanks!

So here is a picture with the measurements, the long wall is about 4.1m long and 1.6m wide.

And the width from the back wall to the left of the cooker to the 4.1m wall is about 2.6m.

The "loggia" is a balcony with a door out from the kitchen and for some reason they moved the shower and sink to where it says Kupelna above the kitchen, don't ask me why.

    Edit: adding pic

Its only impractical because its new to you: close you eyes, let go of your preconceptions as to how it SHOULD look and embrace it.
    As Yoda might say
“Many of the truths that we cling to depend on our point of view.”
And of course truth, like right or wrong is just an imagined reality.

I must say the corner unit idea is awesome, I have two of the normal ones and they are complete crap.

Can you pull out the bottom drawer on the corner and post a pic please.

And yes, that's why I'm here :D to get help in how to make it work better. The flow doesn't work, sink to cooker to fridge etc.

So hopefully some of you wise people can help me think outside the box. :D

Depends how much you want to spend, and what those adjoining rooms are.
I can see potential alright but would involve significant changes

I wouldn't be into smashing into the other rooms, I could probably close up one of the entrances (yellow lines in attached image).

I just haven't been able to find any examples of this backwards L to get ideas. :D

I would be looking to move the kitchen around and knock 1 wall.

It's still an L, you just need to look at it from another angle. :)

move the door into the living room and that'd make loads of room for a better shaped kitchen.

Yes that would be my thinking too. Then it's actually quite like my kitchen.
