    Hi All

My 2005 Corolla needs about a litre of oil . It has a 1.4 petrol engine.

Just wondering if 10W40 semi synthetic would be ok to use. I have plenty of this leftover in the shed .

    Thanks

Do those engines have a tendency to burn oil ?

Is it a VVTi? Some of those have certain design flaws that lead them to consume oil, yes. Some folks use a 5W30 full-synth and plenty of it to compensate somewhat, but that's a whole 'nother days work. 10W40 is fine, as said. Keep an eye on the level.

Had 04 version of your car. They do have a tendency to burn a bit of oil all right. I fed it Lidl's finest 10w40 for years

Yip, its a VVTi engine so that explains it .
