Has anyone got any ideas or experience of fixing anything similar with chemical metal or welding or whatever?

I don't have the piece that broke away.

Clean thoroughly, tig weld to build the area up again, drill and tap and fit a helicoil or similar.

Could that be done do you think with the engine in situ, and more importantly, do you know anyone who would be able to do it?

There's a chap out in Dollymount, who might be able to do something with it, I can't remember the name of the business, but you should find him online. I'll see if I can find more, I used him a few years ago. I'll check this post again tomorrow.

That's the place I was trying to remember. The owner is a biker himself, he has a good workshop, and vast experience at that alloy welding. He did a helicoil for me a few years back, :)
