11 of the 12 entries trained by Aidan O'Brien. Will probably cut up and end up being a 5 - 6 runner field.

This surely borders on being irresponsible by other trainers for not even entering up their better staying 2 year olds?

    . Vertem Futurity Trophy entries

    Armory
    Hong Kong
    Iberia
    Innisfree
    Kameko*
    Louisiana
    Mogul
    Mythical
    New World Tapestry
    Royal County Down
    Royal Dornoch
    Year Of The Tiger

    *not trained by Aidan O'Brien

Appleby, Gosden or Mark Johnson should have plenty of material to make a serious bid at winning this. It did Roaring Lion no harm at all to finish second to Saxon Warrior in this a few years ago. With prize money down to 6th there's no excuse for not having a crack at it.

O'Brien was serious about only running 2 in it ( Mogul and Innisfree? ). Now he'll have to find a half dozen to fill the field.

"Speaking to the Racing Post on Monday, Donnacha O'Brien said: "It's hard to know what will even run yet, but Mogul and Innisfree are two very nice horses who we have in it who will be better again next year."

What a debacle and how could a sponsor be happy with a glorified piece of work for Ballydoyle??

    From sportinglife.com:

Doncaster's clerk of the course Roderick Duncan was at a loss to explain the Ballydoyle monopoly and insisted trainers could not blame the ground, which is currently good to soft.

"The ground is improving. We've had no significant rain for six days, less than half a millimetre most of those days, so it has dried back a little bit," he said.

"It is interesting looking at the declarations. I'm looking to see if the other horses ran recently or have other options, but it doesn't appear they have.

"I don't know what to say. I'm lost for an explanation."

He added: "In fairness Aidan will probably use this as an exercise himself and we will probably see another Classic winner emerge anyway, because he is a master at producing them and he'll undoubtedly be using this as a trial.

"Respect to Aidan. We're always grateful for Coolmore's support and on this occasion we'd be lost without them."

You'd think with Godolphin's juveniles running so well they'd have a few in there, they've plenty.

Sure Godolphin has dozens of 2years, as does Gosden. Why aren't either running at least 1 of them? What's the problem?

Nobody knows what this race is and they are holding their horses back for the Racing Post Trophy instead.

A Group 1 race will be staged on an artificial surface for the first time in Britain after it was revealed on Saturday that the rescheduled Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes will be run on Newcastle's Tapeta surface next Friday.

The evening fixture emerged as the race's unlikely saviour following the cancellation of Doncaster's Saturday card due to waterlogging, with various stakeholders within the sport moving swiftly to ensure the final British Group 1 of the season was rearranged.

Newcastle's Tapeta course, which was laid in 2016 and was famously the scene of Enable's debut the same year, will now play host to some more potential stars. The track boasts a straight mile so race conditions will be similar to Doncaster, albeit on a different surface.

Although it will be the first time the race takes place on Tapeta, Newcastle has staged the race before, with Be My Chief winning on turf for Sir Henry Cecil in 1989.

The £200,000 prize fund remains unchanged, and the race reverts to the original entries. In addition, it has been reopened so new entries can be made by noon on Monday.

This gives trainers the chance to challenge the virtual monopoly Aidan O'Brien had at Monday's five-day stage when it was revealed he had 11 of the 12 remaining entries, and then five of the six declarations

The rescheduled race could yet have a decent sized field and the Tapeta surface is another complicating factor.

It's great to see it being saved. There'll be jockey, trainer attendance problems due to the Breeders Cup clash.

Really looking forward to this being run on the all weather.
Just hope it isn't run at a slow pace as connections will know you have very little chance if you race prominently.
Ideal horse for the race would be one that likes to be held up and has plenty of stamina and plenty of racecourse experience.
Inexperienced keen going horses will be falling out the back of the telly.

In addition to Wichita, Hong Kong, Innisfree and Mogul feature among a slightly smaller Ballydoyle contingent of nine entries.

The Andrew Balding-trained Kameko has once again been entered, and may not have to fight a lone hand this time, with Cepheus, Cherokee Trail, Geometrical, Tammani and Verboten all left in on this occasion having had an initial entry before last Monday's cutoff.

In addition, Kinross, and the Emmet Mullins-trained King Of The Throne have been supplemented for the mile race, leaving 17 potential runners.

The all-weather track has seen some Dirtbred-like types being steered towards the race. This race will be something out of the ordinary and surely a pointer to where all-weather racing in these parts is heading. There's a demand for it from trainers, mainly due to the uncertainty there's been around ground conditions in late season flat races in recent times.
