Wheels poking past arches

So I collected new wheels today and the offset was lower than I was expecting. The wheels are poking out from the arch, but the tyres tread are in behind. Is this an NCT failure? Tyres are a bit too stretched for my liking also.

if you're not happy they are safe, just remember they are all that keeps you out of the ditch.

What is the width of the wheels and tyres ? Have failed with 225/40 on 9.5j wheels

Not sure about NCT but wheels sticking out from under the arches would be a no debate fail with TUEV. I imagine NCT will be the same.

225s on a 9J at the min, would ideally do a 235 next if I can fit them

But if you fit wider tyres they’ll def stick out.
225 isn’t that wide a tyre unless it’s on something tiny.

A car with wrong offset wheels won’t drive as designed to. geometry will be all wrong.

And where is the wide wheel to go if car is laden and you go over something big and the car goes down
    Might not be road safety!

If your car has adjustable camber you might be able to get them sitting in a bit better - but ultimately if you don't like the stretched look and the poke, you're better off just selling them on and getting a set which fit correctly.
