New EirTV app replaces green sport app

    Anybody else having issues with the new app? I'm getting an error message regarding DRM content, had to sideload the old Eir sport app to get it working again

    On laptop the old link allows you to log in but there are no channels, it was

    New (black) EirTV app not working on Android tablet anymore, but working on Android phone.

    From the Play Store reviews it seems to be a DRM issue, which has to do with Google's Widevine DRM tool and the associated level, based on the hardware.
    At least that's the way I read it.

    The Eir troubleshooting page doesn't explicitly spell it out, but has some info as to remedy problems - https://www.eir.ie/support/eirtv/eir-tv-web-troubleshooting/

    As to why Eir would change the player app and mess it up like this, while the RWC is still running, is beyond me, but altogether not really a surprise.

    Nothing surprises me with Eir anymore. I've never come across so many incompetent people working for the same company. In the process of severing all ties to them which is almost as annoying and time consuming as getting the service to work in the first place.

    I’m not an eir mobile customer at present but just checking on the (iOS) App Store and the eir website, it appears both eir Sport apps are gone and there is only eir TV now.

    Does that mean eir Mobile customers now have access to the full eir TV app with the restriction on casting gone?

    i have that new app and the channels are tg4, eir sport 1 and 2 and VMS

    Just to be clear, the eir Sport app I’m referring to that couldn’t cast is the JustMobile or “red” app. It is definitely gone from the iOS App Store - tried a direct link from the eir website to be told it wasn’t available.

    You've picked up the poster wrong. On the Eir mobile app, casting wasn't available. The poster is asking if this is now available to the Eir mobile customers on the new app. I'm hoping the answer is yes, as I'm in the same situation as icdg!

    At least you can watch Eir Sport on the laptop if your with Eir, previously the software was outdated (silverlight).

    The Eir app is no longer working for me on the tablet. If I move it to my desktop pc, would it be possible to cast it to the television somehow, say using a firestick or equivalent device?

    Not surprising given the new deal with Apple to distribute TV services...I wonder if the Android issues are linked to that deal...

    It seems the Android issues are related to a DRM protocol called Widevine... Most Android devices, to my knowledge, have a Widevine security clearance of Level 3, Level 1 seems to be required for the Eir TV app to work...

    I'm open to correction on this and don't have a level 1 device to test the app on but if anybody can confirm that would be great!

    I have the app and it works great, however I gave the use of it to my daughter last month now I want it just to watch a match does she have to delete it from her phone before I can use it as I cant see it on my phone, you are only allowed to switch from one device to another one once a month which is silly.

    The app is a strong selling point for me with Eir and Ive been without now for a few weeks. As is generally accepted Eir Customer Service is poor at best.

    So I just downloaded the new EirTV all but it won't let me login.

    I keep getting the right message " There appears to be a network problem. Please check your internet connection"

    The problem with that is that I can login to the MyEir app and browse and post on boards.is without any issue...

    Anyone else having this issue?

    I had that issue for over a week. I contacted eir customer service on twitter who asked me to do the usual, reinstall app, reboot etc. When that didnt work I was given phone number to customer service.

    Before ringing them I tried the app one more time and it worked allowing me to log in.

    Not sure if the two events were connected....

    The error message youre getting seems to be a.common problem.
