Hi all, I've 3 kids and another on the way, so my A6 will no longer suffice. After a lot of looking around, I've narrowed down my search to a Discovery Sport or a Kodiaq, with the Kodiaq looking most likely at this point.

My current car is Diesel, with an annual mileage of ca. 10k KMs.... Mostly urban / stop-start. Would I be crazy to consider a Diesel again given this mileage? If yes, it would rule out the Disco Sport id guess.

If I were to go down the Kodiaq route, has anyone some personal experience on trim levels? Leather is a must have for me with a young family, which is edging me towards the Style spec. Is it worth the 4k premium over the Ambition spec?

    Thanks in advance!

Depending on age of your kids, look for a Volvo XC60 with family pack. This has 2 integrated booster seats on the outer seats in rear bench and any size child seat will go in the middle no problems.

We’re on our second one now, really comfortable reliable cars.

Only problem is they are as rare as hens teeth, so uk is the only real option to buy

Where will he put the new baby? Boot, up front on the passengers lap?

Would an S max titanium suit you?

Petrol a much better option. Leather seats a very personal choice. Never felt any need with my two young kids. Seats still really good. Maybe seat tarraco? As an alt choice.

Peugot 5008 is probably a better option than the kodiaq.
The S-Max is brilliant as well but pricey.
Well worth bringing over a 2017 vignale model from the UK though if you could land it. Plenty of them over there.

Had a Peugeot in a previous life and had nothing but issues with it! I'm going to check out the Ford though. The Skoda 0% PCP rates are very tempting.

Peugeot and Renault are very different now to years ago. Don't think you'll find many complaints from there latest offerings.

Yep..compared to 10 years ago its like completely different companies.
Look at the pegueot thread below and I think every single purchase is delighted with their 5008.

Why would petrol rule out a Disco Sport? As regards accommodation, not much (if any) boot space in disco sport with third row of seats up. Would you be using one of these permanently?

Not sure any of the cars mentioned yet will work for 4 kids in the real world. I take it that in reality the car will need to accomodate 6 - 4 kids and two adults?

We will have three kids sson and we went for a 7 seater C4 grand picasso but in reality the two back seats are tiny and hard to access if you have child seats fitted in the 2nd row. Also the boot is non existant with the 3rd row of seats up. Fine for occasional use but you will need acess to the 3rd row all the time with 4 kids? A Kodiak is even worse than the C4 GP as the 2nd row of seats wont easily accommodate 3 carseats.

Have you thought about a proper 7 seater, Ford Galaxy / Seat Alhambra / VW Sharan?

I looked at all of the above, though the Kodiak wasn't quite out. Best for me was the Galaxy. Three isofix in the middle, and decent accessible rear row -in normal use for us 2 isofix (middle and left) with the spare allowing good rear access.

It all depends on the range of car seats/boosters that you need.

I’ve a Peugeot 5008. Had the old model and bought the new model in 2018. I love it, it ticks all my boxes, 3 full seats across the back and an extra 2 in the boot. I had a troublesome Renault about 15 years ago, but this Peugeot is fab and comes with a 5 year warranty. They’ve come a long way and defo worth a look.

You need one of the real 7 seaters, you need a 7 seater with a boot. I've a Touran and live it, wouldn't dream of it for you though, with 4 kids I think you really need a proper boot.

Thanks for all of the feedback. Some very good food for thought. I've a 9, 7 and 3 yo at the moment so a wide range of ages. I had ruled the Discovery out as heard petrol mpg was very poor. Spoke with Ford salesman today and going to look at the S-Max (and prob Galaxy now too) at the weekend... He reckoned I should not rule out diesel, but not sure myself! Will have a look at the 5008 too.

Definitely check out the Alhambra/Sharan. Integrated boosters and the van doors can be a god send at times.

The new Disco sport has a small battery to smooth out the stop/start, I wouldn't be too concerned over Diesel vs. Petrol for this class of car, they're what Diesel's exist for, and the vast majority of Land Rover in Europe will be diesel powered.

The A6 will support the biggest Multimac....might be cheaper than swapping the car.....

I bought an Smax just before my 3rd arrived. 5 yrs later all seats were full. We were changing car, mostly due to age and made a rush judgement getting a zafira tourer.

A fine car day to day and my oldest is rarely in it she walks to school but if we want to go anywhere it's very tight.

Not sure when we can afford to change again but when the time comes it will be a galaxy. There are only a handful of 7 seaters with the necessary 3 full seats across the middle. Smax, galaxy, grand scenic, Alhambra, 5008.

The Titanium spec on the ford is very good.

Multimac won't be suitable in 2 years when the oldest are 11 and 9 they're meant for very small kids IMO

I have the new 5008, well my Wife does. Really is at the price point a fabulous car. But, if I had 4, Im not sure either it or the Kodiaq are suitable long term, and the Disco Sport is definitely not suitable, it's a fair whack smaller again.
