Ferguson Ariva 252 upgrade

The battery flap went missing from my Ariva 252 STB remote control a good few years ago now but hasn't been too much of an inconvenience until twice in the last week I've noticed the batteries inside getting extremely hot and in the latest incident they were too hot to handle and I could smell melting plastic from the battery bay of the remote.
Replacing the remote is easy enough but then I got to thinking is there any box currently available that would be a big upgrade experience to the STB I have? I have FTA, and I have Terrestrial off an antenna attached to the sat dish, and I'm not a hugely fanatical TV viewer. Would there be any point in me changing the box I have?

Plenty of good enigma2 boxes going tiviar is a triple tuner and is on a long thread.
Sometimes newer faster boxes can do more.

I had a look at that thread but I can't see what the Tiviar gives me over what I currently have.

Well, of course that depends on what you value in a box.
You won't get extra channels, but you do get 7-day EPG and the ability to series link recordings. If you only occasionally record, then this may not be of interest.
The ability to record one channel while watching another can be very useful, as is the ability to watch over the LAN on a tablet or other screen.
There are other features which make it nice to have, like different skins, picons etc. but I would regard them as just window dressing.

FWIW, I setup the Tiviar for my daughter and I have an Ariva myself. If I was upgrading I would go for an Enigma box, but while it stays working, I'll keep the Ariva.
