I visited a few sites over the last year and while some were in reasonable condition others had signs of neglect or were not marked at all. I know some groups in West Cork have been active in developing an app etc but i think there needs to be a major national initiative to capture all these sites and make them accessible to people. It galls me to see money found for restoration of the big house and the developing amnesia toward our foundational generation. Or maybe this is underway and I'm just out of touch!

Most big houses I know are derelict. I don't see how funding should be an either/or.
The best known ambush site is altered almost out of all recognition. So much so, any material which may have been useful in any future archeological investigations has been removed, moved or lost.

Funding is always an either or due to scarcity. Memorialising colonial piles is quite frankly obscene. The sites of battles that won our independence are more important. Roads have changed but that does not mean that they should not be rechanged and by passed so that the site is preserved to some degree. What is lacking is the will to do this; I think behind that lack of will lies the old forelock tugging subservience toward the landlord class. I'd rather celebrate the people who ended the need for that.
