I just changed the hall light from the usual bulb to a pir sensor light.
Hadn't realised there was a metal ring on new light..

I connected an earth to it from the ceiling rose terminal.

I'm happy good connection / continuity but.... I didn't have an earth wire ...i used a cable from a bedroom lamp... Coloured it green so as not to forget I used it as an earth.

Now question... Is that flex cable from a standard lamp OK to use?
Is there a specific one / type cable you should use on lighting connections... Thanks

It must be an earth sheath used.

Many use to use neutral or even live just throw a bit of tape on it....

Earth wire is only there to take the current if there is a fault so they tend to be smaller anyway as they don't hold a current constantly where as live and neutral would.

It's not the correct thing to do but if earthed correctly as in the earth is actually connected at the board them it's earthed.

Ah OK didn't think even about the sheath thanks it was more if the wire/ cable I used was sufficient... I'm happy it's earthed.. Thks...
Is there a way using a meter at the replaced light to check the connection. ? I'm 100per cent sure it's earthed.. I have a meter in shed somewhere.. Thks

If you check the supply and other prong on earth you should have 230v approximately
