Licence stolen

I had the misforune to have had my wallet stolen while abroad.
Tried to contact the NDLS but they have only an 076 phone number which is a premium rate line that cannot be contacted from abroad.
I contacted them on my return to be told :

    1. Report it stolen to guards. (even though it happened overseas)
    2. Submit a licence application form - containing about 20 questions
3 Submit proof of address, public service card, and prsi number.
4 Pay €35 even though my licence had only 10 months to renewal.
5 Make an appointment to visit an NDLS office (Next available 3 weeks time)

All this in spite of the fact that I have a copy of my licence on my phone and, they must also have all the details on file already
This seems very bureaucratic and a waste of time.
All the other items in my wallet:
    Public service card,
    Credit card.
    Debit card.
were replaced and sent to my home address within 48 hours.
The HSE even offered to text me the number of my E111 card if needed.

If you have PSC, then for point #2 you don't need anything else.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

076 isn't a premium number. Its a generic number for VOIP networks. So it would be the same as calling any other mobile or land line number.

You don't need to make an appointment, go in any day it's open and get it sorted.

It won't come off your bundle so you might end up paying 35c per minute to be fair.

As it is not included in mobile plans it is technically premium from customer point of view.

There are queues of British licence holders at the moment swapping their licences for EU ones.

    Go in early....

I was only in recently and was seen in under an hour.

The worst hold up was all the auld ones which arrived with either no forms, had forms but didn't bother even filling them in, others then kept signing themselves in!!!! Numerous calls to ones there or not there and not even going up.

The questions of complete idiocy and I actually fear these people are actually driving a car on the road....

It's actually worrying to be honest.
