Biggest waste of time

Listening to the radio last night and sports presenters were noting when they go to their deathbed they will look back and feel that they probably wasted so much time following the Irish soccer team, watching the matches and following what was going on with the drama etc.

This made me reflect on how i've wasted time -

    1. going to charity shops looking for the ultimate find. 95% of the time left empty handed, its all junk.

    2. ripping CDs and searching to download movies. now i have Spotify and Netflix So days of downloading and saving to an external hard disk. all wasted

    3. Waiting for buses, often the #17 dublin bus, often for 55minutes each time. now just jump in the car. hours wasted

    4. Going out for drinks on saturday nights cause of the fear of missing out in my 20s. i could have learned something in that time

what about you - hours spending time on boards.ie perhaps?

    We are all wasting.

LMAO it’s all pointless. Your Saturday night on the beer was shared with friends, forming human connection, how is that any more pointless than sitting at home on Udemy learning about code or some other bollox that has no other value than the one we assign to it?

... or some other bollox that has no other value than the one we assign to it?

    Is all value merely assigned?
    What does "quality" mean Phaedrus?

I guess my point was having thousands of posts yet saying 'this is s*it' is a bit screwed up.

    What is time well spent?
Is it effort expended that moves you forward towards a particular goal?
Is it nothing to do with goals at all, whereby the expended effort yields its own immediate satisfaction as you go along?

Only when you can define 'time well spent' can you begin to consider was is and isn't a waste of time.

There is no one meaning to life. There is only 'a' meaning, that you assign. Terrifying burden. It follows therefore that all value is therefore likewise assigned by an individual through their own viewpoint. One person's trash is another person's treasure. So it follows that one person's time well spent is another person's waste of time.

For the most part yes, If not I wouldn't be on here. But as with everything, what you and I like is subjective. What I consider is shít others cant get enough of. Thats life.

    Good to hear.

Sometimes I think Ireland is a bit like Russia. In Russia, smiling is seen as a sign of stupdity, or equivalent. In Ireland, its like expressions of positivity is a sign of stupidity, or equivalent - its not, if only it were that easy.

Average 6 hours a day for 4 years playing WoW, thoroughly enjoyed it though even if it was a big waste of time in the grand scheme of things

There was no other alternative so it had to be done. I wouldn't be thinking negatively in that way.

Social media (particularly Instagram) has to be the biggest waste of time. Spending hours each day watching people's stories of them in the gym, sipping coffee, selfies. Just to feed other people's narcissism.

At least with Boards there's entertainment (most of the time), it can be informative and some posts make me laugh out loud daily.

Staring at your mobile phone. Scrolling through the same stuff you just scrolled through 30 mins ago.

Put it away, look around, be present, talk to people, look at the world, breathe, think, don't think. Most things are better than being a slave to those devices.

The reason I use my phone in public is because people are far less interesting these days.

The phone is people, just remote people who share your interests.

To a point perhaps, its more of a representation of people.

Some laugh that you get your movie needs on Netflix.

I saw most of their content when it was released, by renting it from the video cave for £3 a night back in the 90’s
