Looking to import a car next week and my insurance is expiring at the end of the month.

Got by far the best quote by AA but they say they wont start a new policy with a UK reg.(will be waiting a while for VRT appointment)

Could I buy the insurance off AA now with policy starting on 31st on my old Irish reg car then switch it to my new UK reg car?

I will still have old policy covering me until the 31st.

There's your answer. If you bring car in before 31st, switch old policy to import.New policy will apply to old car, wait a few days , drive old car then switch again.

    Cheers deezell,

If anyone else has this issue I found Liberty will insure UK reg.

    Cheers deezell,

I think they'll all insure as a change over, whatever about from a new policy. Aviva will let you change to UK online, it even decodes UK reg to car make and model. No mention of time limit on uk plates. FBD only gave 30 days, threatened to withdraw cover from son's import as he awaited full V5C, dealer pulled the front page unbeknownst to us. Major panic, VRT appointnent booked a day before insurance deadline, form arrived day before.

Very lucky. Yes I rang AA and 123 and both refused to insure UK reg on new policy.

Then rang first Ireland and guy said only few companies will insure UK Reg new policy. Liberty been onem
