So I left my house key in the front door (on the inside) when I was walking out this morning. Will my housemates key be still be able to open the door when she gets back this evening?

Depends on what type of lock it is

How would I figure that out?

I’m assuming it’s a euro cylinder (google it)

    Probably not.
It's unusual for a door to lock while the key is still in it from the inside.

    I did this.

Locksmith used a sheet of micro thin plastic to pop it open

    I’d guess it’s a lever/pad door handle

Get a better lock, you can pop those locks with a credit card in 2 seconds.

The key was in the lock on the inside so couldnt get the key in the lock from from the outside. If the handle is pulled up and deadlock on, the credit card trick wont work.

    Hi,

If the key on the inside is in the vertical position (Hasn't been turned) and you flat mate then puts their key in on the outside and gives the back of their key a sharp but gentle tap with a hammer/ handle of scewdriver etc then that will often bump the inside key out of the lock enough for the outside key to work.

Ran into this problem when we first got our door replaced with a new palladio one. We subsequently replaced the lock for one with a thumb turn unit on the inside so as not to repeat :)

    Hope this helps....
