Importing rescue dog from the States

This is a bit difficult one, but was hoping for some advice. My mum lives in the US and a few years ago her and my step-father got a rescue dog when one of their little dogs passed away.

Long story short, I'm very concerned for Sophie, as my mum moved and changed employers after my step-father passed, and her career requires travel, often for more than 2 days at a time and overnight, leaving Sophie with no human contact other than a 20$ half hour walk with a minder on the days she's gone.

Just to put it out there, my mum has a severe difficulty in understanding the moral or ethical issues here and empathy is something she lacks.

However, I know if I paid for her (Sophie) to be sent to me, she would happily send her but I have no idea how to go about doing so. I'm also caught in an emotional turmoil as I don't want the poor pet to suffer as she has a few issues of her own, but she is probably around 8 yers old, over 10lbs and I worry the minute my mum feels that she 'costs' her more than she would like she will have her PTS.

I apologise if my post isn't clear, I'm exhausted and this is causing me a lot of emotional upset and stress...
