    Hi Guys.
Question in relation to cables which should be used to wire 2 way staircase switch. I'm getting lost a bit.

i have 1.5mm twin and earth from the board to switch 1 and than from the same switch 1.5 twin and earth is going to light and 1.5mm double brown is going to second switch. From the second switch I need to connect only live to the light but what kind of cable should I use. 1.5mm twin and earth and only use live and earth and leave the neutral? I heard that using single browns its no a good idea.

    Thanks for any replay.

Single brown from light+ and earth to switch one , from switch one double brown to switch two
and from switch two single brown back to light
That's how we did that a couple of years ago here in the hallway and bedrooms

Or if its easier to go from switch to switch, a single brown added from switch to switch, as well as the twin brown that is already in will work.

Your first single brown must be coming from your live supply surely. Both single browns can’t be coming from the light

One switch is connected to permanent live from the board. The other switch supplies the switched live to the light. The only other cables (besides earth) should be the double brown connecting the two switches.

It may be complicated if you have another single brown coming out of switch one supplying permanent live to another different light switch.

I’m not an electrician by the way so please take note. There are other ways of doing this but I think this is the most common way in this country.

That depends on whether supply is brought from DB direct to ceiling roses or to switches.

If brought to ceiling roses first, you bring twin brown from rose to switch. OP seems to suggest supply from DB to switch. Then to light. If that's the case I would bring 3 browns from first to second switch. And that is all that is needed. That's what I do whenever an existing single switch has another added for 2 way, as its the simplest as wiring is needed between switches anyway. So 3 browns between and earth, and that's it done wiring wise.
