Onkyo 9110

I'm looking to purchase the Onkyo 9110 but would like to be able to connect to tv and run my Spotify via Chromecast. (The tv is a 2 year old Hitachi)

Do I need a DAC to do this? If yes, what budget DAC will do the job well?

Am I just better off going for something like the Yamaha RS202d as has DAC included? Is there a big difference in sound between the Onkyo v Yamaha?

    Cheers

    Hi Murphman88.

Ideally you should get a stereo amp that has an optical connection. I think this is one of the only ways you will be able to get audio out from your TV without using HDMI.
Unless you use the headphone socket on the TV if it has one?

Something like the Onkyo TX8130 priced at 299 euro
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-203838-onkyo-tx8130-black-network-stereo-receiver.aspx

The only other way around this would be if you purchased the CYP digital to analogue converter priced at 49.99 Euro
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-12519-cyp-aud3-192-dac.aspx
This will allow you to connect to any amp that has phono connections.

If you do just go via headphone jack on the TV then I would suggest an amp with a built DAC like the mentioned RS202 which will give a better sound quality.

What would be the difference in sound between the 9110 (with the external DAC) versus the TX1830?

Could you do me a deal on both options with speaker wire? Also will I need to buy wire to run from tv-dac-amp ?

    Cheers

    Hi Murphman88,

Kenny is off today so I hope you don;t mind me replying on his behalf.

The previous Onkyo A9010 was a What Hifi award winner as it used the best analogue components for the best sound quality. The A9110 is a continuation of it. I haven't heard the TX8130 running personally but the 9110 is a stunning amplifier for the price.

For the CYP DAV you would need an optical cable running from the TV to the DAC and a phono cable from the DAC to the amplifier.

How much speaker cable do you need and I can work out a price for you.

    Kind regards

    David

I'd probably need a 5  feet of wire. The speakers will be either side of tv with amp underneath. Thanks

    Hi Murphyman88.

In Euro it would be the following:

    Onkyo A9110
3 meters QED Silver Anniversary XT
    Total: £193 / 228 Euro

    Onkyo TX8130
    3 meters Silver Anniversary XT
    Total: £249 / 293 Euro

You are free to pay in whichever currency works out to be cheapest for you.

I see on another thread that the 9110 is discountined? Please confirm.

Do you have any of the old versions( 9010) in stock?

    Hi Murphman88.

I have double checked this again and they are now showing on our website as last few to clear and there is no further incoming date for anymore stock.
This does unfortunately usually mean that it has now went end of line with ourselves.

The A9010 has not been available for many months now.

    Cheers

    Hi Murphman88.

    Sorry for the confusion.
There are none of the A9110 left here at the Belfast store and no more stock is available to us.

It's the .co.uk site its up as "last few" to clear as some of the English stores may have some left.
There is unfortunately no way for us to get stock once it has gone to another store.

So unfortunately this now rules out the A9910 as an option.
