    Hi lads,

    Cheers.

    I used :

    https://www.eurocarparts.com/en_ie/p/steel-seal-head-gasket-repair-542771460

But I only paid 23 Euro for it there.

I used this last week and it seems to have worked. No drinking of coolant and no white smoke out the back.

It said it would work in 30mins but I thought it didn't work and got a mechanic out to look at it.

He said it fixed the problem but I didn't run it long enough after to let it work.

Will it be grand on a Passat? What do you do put it in the coolant tank and leave the car running for a while?

It said any car, but I'm no mechanic.

The instructions are on it and there is a video on the website, but yeah put in the Rad if you have access or the expansion tank if not and run it for 30 mins.

Sorry for another clueless question so after leaving it run I assume I'll have to add more coolant yeh?

Yeah, at no point want to run the engine with no coolant in it. Is it so bad that if you run it for 30mins will it use all of your coolant? If so I would keep topping it up even if you have to turn it off to do so. Don't cook your engine.

No the coolant goes under minimum after about a week.

Is this the chancey looking passat from the bangernomics thread a while back? :(

Its best to disconnect the heater core and just loop the coolant lines when using this sorta stuff as it stops it getting blocked up. Although from reading the thread I gather you've already put the sealer stuff in.

The coolant and oil has to be going somewhere so first of all you need to find out if you've coolant in your oil (white-ish mayonnaise like substance inside the oil cap) or check for oil in your coolant.

Also is their any blue or white smoke coming from the exhaust?

And is their any leaks (oil or coolant) under the car ?
Specifically check the expansion tank and the bottom of the radiator for leaks.

The engine management light can come on for any number of reasons especially on those 1.8t's so at this stage you can probably just ignore that.
